Las notas de este documento retratan la agonía de uno de los últimos bodegones de la periferia de Buenos Aires (el bar «El Chino»), donde el carácter espontáneo y popular de las tertulias de tango estaban transformándose ya en un circo de atracciones. En el momento del registro, el bodegón comenzaba a ser invadido por la clase media pudiente, los turistas y el ambiente del arte, ávidos de la ‘autenticidad’ que encontraban en aquellos tertulianos de barrio desgastados por el tiempo, el alcohol y las penurias económicas, pero auto-expuestos ahora en formato de feria, ofertando su cuerpo y su voz por unas monedas que les permitiesen pagarse algunas copas y sentirse observados. El trabajo se centra exclusivamente en la trastienda y el entorno del bar, es decir, entre los bastidores donde aquella realidad se revelaba como un sainete.
The work portrays the agony of one of the last authentic tango places of Buenos Aires (the bar «El Chino»), where the original atmosphere of that place was already turning into a circus of attraction. At that time, this popular bar began to be invaded by the wealthy middle class, foreign tourists and members the art scene, all of them eager to expropriate the ‘authenticity’ they found in those old fashion neighbours and amateur singers worn by time, alcohol and economic hardship, now self-exposed in a fair format, offering their body and their voice for a few coins to pay the next drinks. The work focuses exclusively on the backroom and the surroundings of the bar, that is, behind the scenes where that reality was revealed as a farce.
