Ways to Read Sade
This visual essay, also titled «exercise in perpendicular reading», arranges the text of Philosophy in the Bedroom in geometric order, reviving the tradition of vertical writing that flanked the great avenues (Broadway, Corrientes, Avenida Paulista, Fifth Avenue, Avenida de los Incas), always set on neon-crowned signs that were not there to be read but devoured by the eye, chewed in bites with the eyes like someone quickly stuffing a loaf of bread into the stomach. The libidinous, dancing character of the text of our essay (the turning point of the motionless world) is produced by an algorithmic engine that allows the user, not the reader (who does not read but uses), to make the lines of the divine marquis circulate across the glass wall of the screen, and also to modify, through neurotic clicks, the center of gravity of each paragraph. In the other visual essays, which can be reached from the top menu, one finds the same text streaming from the mouse (a micturition of letters that skids along the bottom), and also a heteroclite, barren, labile mesh that the mouse arrow itself fillets and tears apart (tortures) at piacere. Other possible titles for the essay: «Sade for dummies», «Sade in 24hrs», or «Erotological shelf for rotating letters».
